Tiger Woods, the American professional golfer with a record 82 PGA Tour victories and 15 major championships, was arrested on a driving under the influence charge on May 29, 2017, in Jupiter, Florida.[1][7]

Jupiter police found Woods asleep behind the wheel of his parked Mercedes-Benz with the engine running at around 3 a.m. local time. No crash was reported in the incident.[1][2]

A roadside breath test showed 0.00 blood alcohol content. Subsequent toxicology tests revealed prescription painkillers including Vicodin and Dilaudid, along with THC and the anti-anxiety drug Xanax in Woods' system.[2]

Woods was booked into Palm Beach County jail and released a few hours later after posting $500 bail. In October 2017, prosecutors dropped the DUI charge and Woods pleaded guilty to reckless driving.[1][3]

On February 23, 2021, Woods was involved in a single-vehicle crash in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, when his SUV struck a median, spun around and rolled over onto its side.[4][5]

Woods sustained serious right leg injuries requiring surgery and extensive rehabilitation, sidelining him from competitive golf for much of the year. Investigators found no evidence of impairment by alcohol or drugs; speed was cited as a factor, with the vehicle estimated at 84-87 mph in a 45 mph zone.[4][5]

Woods, who underwent multiple back surgeries prior to these incidents, has competed sparingly since. He missed the cut at the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club with rounds of 73 and 77.[6]

Woods co-founded the simulator-based TGL golf league with Rory McIlroy, originally set to launch in 2025.[7]
