Cardinals' Winn uninjured in crash after walk-off hit

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn emerged uninjured from a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 late Wednesday, hours after delivering the game-winning hit in an 11-inning victory over the New York Mets. The Cardinals said Winn's vehicle slipped on wet pavement, with him the only occupant. Police, team security and medical staff assisted at the scene before he went to a hospital for evaluation.

The team expressed gratitude for his well-being and thanked first responders. Winn had singled home the decisive run in the bottom of the 11th inning at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on April 1, 2026, securing a 2-1 win. St. Louis had tied the score in the sixth on an RBI from Nolan Gorman, while reliever Gordon Graceffo escaped a jam in the top of the 11th.

New York scored its lone run on a Juan Soto home run after Francisco Lindor was picked off first base. The Gold Glove shortstop went 1-for-4 in the game and entered batting .160 with four hits and two runs scored through six contests this season. "It wasn’t the best swing," Winn said afterward. "But I was just trying to get to first base, just in case."

Winn received medical clearance with no reported injuries.
