The most recent NBA trade deadline on February 8, 2024, passed without a deal involving Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.[1]

The Bucks have endured disappointing playoff results in recent seasons. They finished the 2023-24 regular season third in the Eastern Conference with a 49-33 record before losing 2-4 to the Indiana Pacers in the first round.[2][3]

The 2022-23 season saw a similar outcome, with the Bucks -- the No. 1 seed in the East -- eliminated 1-4 by the Miami Heat in the first round.[2]

These results prompted the Bucks to fire head coach Mike Budenholzer on May 3, 2024. Budenholzer had coached the team since 2018, compiling a 339-192 regular-season record and leading Milwaukee to the 2021 NBA championship.[4][5][6]

The Bucks named Doc Rivers as their new head coach on July 19, 2024.[7]

Antetokounmpo, a Greek professional basketball player selected 15th overall by Milwaukee in the 2013 NBA draft, is a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player (2019, 2020) and the 2021 Finals MVP.[8][9]

In May 2023, Antetokounmpo stated he would request a trade if the franchise did not position itself to contend for championships.[10]
